Marbil, who is 55 years old, graduated from the Philippine Military Academy in 1991, the same class as Acorda, who retired after more than 37 years of service. Benjamin “Benjie” Casuga Acorda Jr. is a retired Filipino police officer who served as the Chief of the Philippine National Police from April 24, 2023 until his extended forced retirement on March 31, 2024.

Before being appointed as PNP Chief, Marbil held leadership positions in the PNP’s financial office, the Eastern Visayas police force, and the unit responsible for highway patrol.

During the retirement ceremony of Acorda at camp crame, President Marcos emphasized the importance of the PNP transforming its personnel into agents of positive change. He called for a police force guided by strong moral principles, dedication to the nation, service to the people, and environmental responsibility. In this ceremony, Marbil was also promoted to the rank of Police General.

In Marcos speech during the change of command ceremony, he said that the PNP enhances their efficiency in fulfilling their responsibilities and he fully supported Marbil in leading a police force of 230,000.

He said: Make sure that the PNP acts as a force for progressive change in the lives of our citizens by guaranteeing the safety and welfare of every community across the nation.

The President also committed to closely collaborating with the PNP in emerging threats like cybercrime, terrorism, and transnational crimes.

Marbil Plans

Marbil during his induction speech said that: We need officers who understand that it’s not sufficient to act decisively, and quickly in the fight against crime; there must also be accountability and transparency on our part.

Marbil emphasized two main things:

  • First, he talked about the importance of having good leaders who are knowledgeable, skilled, and professional.
  • Second, he mentioned the need to improve our ability to enforce the law, keep order, and combat all types of crimes, whether they are local or international.

Marbil is expected to retire on February 7, 2025, upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56.
